Where are they now? Q&A with HVTC Alumni Rebecca Kane
It has been four years since Rebecca Kane completed her Certificate III in Business Administration. Here's what she's been up to since becoming a part of the HVTC Alumni.
What qualification did you complete and when?
I completed my Certificate III in Business Administration, commencing in May 2013 and completing in June 2014.
Who was your host employer?
My first employer was K H Perry & Co working mainly in reception, but after a short period I was transferred to Macquarie Generation (now AGL Macquarie), where I worked mainly in the Records Management department, as well as relief administration.
Since completing, what have you been up to? Where are you working now?
Since completing my traineeship in 2014, the privatisation of Macquarie Generation to AGL Macquarie meant I needed to move on. I now work for a Specialist Electrical Engineering firm called Safearth as an Administration Officer, where I assist our engineers in all facets of the business, from consulting, training, business growth and products teams. I also supervise and provide training to our new admin staff and semi frequently act as the Administration Manager when the regular manager is on business trips or leave.
Have you undertaken any additional training, or plan to?
I completed a Diploma of Leadership and Management in July 2018. Whilst I'm currently not studying, I look forward to continuing my professional development in the years to come.
How has your time with HVTC supported you throughout your working career?
My traineeship with HVTC was fantastic! I use the skills I learnt from my time with HVTC daily, and it has allowed me to progress through my career. I really enjoyed the training I was able to receive and the wisdom provided to me by my field officer Kellie Marks, that I still use to this day.
What's next? Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
I love my current workplace and can definitely see myself growing as the business does. Safearth is currently based in Australia and the US, but we are constantly looking for new opportunities worldwide, so I would love to be able to help Safearth grow in the next few years.
