HVTC 40th Anniversary - Melinda Clarkson
Melinda Clarkson completed her traineeship with HVTC back in 1988, and has since gained experience in various aspects of administration and payroll services, becoming a valuable team member at HVTC.
At the time that Mel was looking for work, she had no idea what to do, so her mother took her to HVTC to see what they had available. It was there that she was offered a traineeship in Office Operations, hosted to HVTC, which launched her career in the industry.
Mel gained a Certificate in Office Operations (1988) through Newcastle TAFE as part of her traineeship, as well as a Certificate of Proficiency under the Australian Traineeship System (1988). From there, she was able to gain an ongoing position with the team at HVTC. After gaining her first qualifications, Mel has also completed studies to obtain both a Certificate III in Financial Services and a Certificate IV in Payroll Administration.
A highlight of the traineeship for Mel was having the chance to be involved in the Work Skill Australia Skills Expo in 1988, and winning a silver medal at the event. Mel also noted her appreciation for the mentorship she received from the HVTC team throughout her training and into her ongoing role.
Mel has since worked in various departments across HVTC, including Office Administration, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, RTO Administration, and Payroll. In between her roles with the team, Mel also worked at Sandvik Australia as a Human Resources Administration Officer and in their Payroll team, as well as having a year off to travel around Australia. Mel now works in HVTC’s Payroll team as a Finance Officer, where she contributes to managing the payroll systems both for staff and our apprentice & trainee cohort.
