HVTC 40th Anniversary - Laura Saville
Laura Saville completed her Certificate III in Automotive – Parts Interpreting through an apprenticeship with HVTC in 2006 after completing school and deciding that university wasn’t the right pathway for her.
“Upon leaving school, I knew 100% that I did not want to attend Uni. I wanted to learn at the same time as work and was aware and appreciated how an apprenticeship was an investment in me by my employer.”
The apprenticeship pathway appealed to Laura as it allowed her to gain real work experience and learn on the job while also earning a wage, as well as providing a positive and inclusive learning environment
“The highlight of my apprenticeship I would say was completing TAFE with highest pass in stage 2 & 3 for the state, and being recognised as Apprentice of the Year for my trade by the Hunter Region Apprenticeship & Traineeship Advisory Committee in 2006.”
Since completing her apprenticeship, Laura has obtained a Cert IV in Business (Frontline Management) and has continued to work and develop in her career with her Host Employer, Cummins South Pacific Pty Ltd.
“I continued to work for my Host Employer as a Parts Interpreter, then was promoted to Parts Supervisor, then Parts Manager in 2008. In 2010, I started my family and took maternity leave, then returned to Cummins part-time as an Admin Assistant. I had a second period of maternity leave in 2013 and continued to work in Admin. In 2019, the Parts Manager role became available again, and now I am back in that role that I held ten years prior.”
