HVTC 40th Anniversary - Georgie Stephenson
Since completing her Business Admin traineeship with HVTC and Goulburn Mulwaree Council in 2013, Georgie has been able to expand her career into the Human Resources field.
Initially, Georgie wasn’t sure what career path she would pursue after completing school, but after hearing about HVTC and the traineeship pathway, she decided to go for it.
“I wasn’t University orientated when I finished school and it was suggested that I contact HVTC to explore alternate study and employment options. I was fortunate enough to be successful in obtaining the trainee role within Corporate Services at Goulburn Mulwaree Council, in which I was exposed to work within the property services, marketing and events, records, and executive administration areas of Council.
“Since completing my traineeship in 2013, I have been working in HR at Goulburn Mulwaree Council. I was first employed as the HR Administration Officer, moving into the HR Officer role in 2016, in which I still occupy. I also have acted in the Learning & Development Coordinator role on various occasions, and have continued relevant studies as outlined below.”
Georgie has also completed further studies since completing her traineeship, including a Diploma of Human Resource Management, a Return to Work Coordination course, and an Introduction to Psychology course.
“The highlight of my traineeship was being heavily involved in Goulburn’s 150th birthday celebrations. I assisted in the administration, organisation, and execution of a week of celebrations, working closely with the Mayor of Goulburn and the Executive Assistant of Corporate Services. The activities I was involved in ranged from mail outs, arranging commemorative coins, and assisting in organising a street parade.
“The biggest benefit of undertaking traineeship is being able to study and gain a qualification while being employed in such a diverse organisation. I found it very beneficial to study in a relevant work environment and being able to use “real life” work examples and tasks to better understand my course material and assessments.
“I unexpectedly fell into my dream job and have no intention of working anywhere but HR for the remainder of my career. I am lucky enough to be involved in inducting the up and coming trainees and apprentices within the organisation, and I am excited about their futures at Goulburn Mulwaree Council.”
