What is a Group Training Organisation?
If you’ve been thinking about hiring an apprentice or trainee, you’ve probably come across the term Group Training at one point or another. But what does it actually mean?
A Group Training Organisation (GTO), recruits an apprentice or trainee and places them with a ‘host’ employer for on-the-job training.
The GTO remains the legal employer of the apprentice or trainee for the duration of their contract and therefore assumes all of the employer responsibilities. This takes away the risk for many businesses, particularly small to medium enterprises (SME’s) who may not have the capacity to directly employ an apprentice or trainee or lack the time and resources to manage the training and contractual arrangements.
A stress-free and risk-free way to hire an Australian Apprentice
If you’ve put off hiring an apprentice or trainee due to a lack of resources, partnering with a GTO can be a productive and cost effective solution.
There is a lot of background work involved in the employment of an apprentice or trainee and this can take up a lot of time and resources, which some businesses just don’t have.
As the legal employer of the apprentice or trainee, a GTO will take care of everything involved, including:
• Managing the advertising, recruitment processes and inductions.
• Completing and submitting all Government paperwork.
• Providing all safety equipment, such as Personal Protective Equipment.
• Paying wages, superannuation, leave days.
• Managing worker’s compensation and insurances.
• Organising and monitoring the training for the apprentice / trainee
• Providing ongoing mentoring and support through the appointment of a dedicated Field Officer to manage the relationship between employee and employer.
This means all you have to focus on is supervising your apprentice/trainee and providing relevant on-the-job training.
Flexibility to meet your business needs (now and in the future)
By using a GTO, you are not tied up to any contract with the apprentice or trainee. This gives you the flexibility to employ an apprentice or trainee for the time you need them, whether that be for the entire duration of the contract or a specific period of time. A GTO can then rotate the apprentice or trainee to another business. If circumstances change, such as work suddenly ends, a GTO can find them another host employer, which takes away the risk for you while ensuring continuity of their training.
