HVTC founding chairman to step down next year

The founding chairman of Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) has announced he will step down from the position after 30 years of service.

The Hon Milton Morris AO will step down as chair at the commencement of the Board meeting in February next year (February 23, 2012). The Board has elected director, and current non-executive chairman and former managing director of Centennial Coal, Bob Cameron as Mr Morris’ replacement. Mr Morris will remain a director.

HVTC trainee named Group Training Australia’s Trainee of the Year

Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) trainee Rebecca Connell has been named Australia’s Trainee of the Year at the National Group Training Awards held in Melbourne on Friday night.

The 20 year old from Rathmines is completing her traineeship through Hunter-V-Tec, HVTC’s Registered Training Organisation, and works for host employer Eraring Energy.

HVTC division has two finalists in Illawarra Industry Council’s Apprentice of the Year Awards

HVTC division, Southern Tablelands Group Training (STGT), has two apprentices named finalists in the Illawarra Industry Council’s Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Joshua (Tom) Whymark is a 28 year old fourth year Engineering Mechanical Apprentice from Yerrinbool who is hosted by Moss Vale company, Dux. James Mallon, 19, is a fourth year Engineering Fabrication Apprentice from Dapto, who is hosted by Joy Mining Machinery at Unanderra.

HVTC awarded $430,000 grant to help implement its first ever Indigenous Employment Strategy

Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) has been awarded a $430,000 grant from the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to help it to implement its new, first ever Indigenous Employment Strategy.

CEO Robert Fuller signed the contract today. Mr Fuller said the grant will be used to employ indigenous mentors and two project officers to help it to better support the recruitment and retention of indigenous apprentices and trainees in the Hunter, New England, Northern Rivers, North Coast and mid-North Coast regions of NSW. Incentives will also be provided to host employers to take on indigenous apprentices and trainees.

HVTC expertise being used to advocate for global development of skills

Hunter Valley Training Company executive director Kay Sharp AM heads to England on Saturday following her appointment as a WorldSkills International (WSI) Foundation advocate.

Mrs Sharp will visit the 41st WorldSkills Competition, otherwise known as the Skill Olympics, being held in London from October 5 to 8.

WSI Foundation was incorporated in April of this year. It is designed to extend the role of WSI beyond the competition to include advocacy and education.
