Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC) trainee Rebecca Connell has been named Australia’s Trainee of the Year at the National Group Training Awards held in Melbourne on Friday night.
The 20 year old from Rathmines is completing her traineeship through Hunter-V-Tec, HVTC’s Registered Training Organisation, and works for host employer Eraring Energy.
HVTC chairman The Hon Milton Morris AO and HVTC CEO Robert Fuller who were both at the awards to support Ms Connell, praised her dedication and congratulated her on a magnificent achievement.
Mr Fuller also congratulated the expert and dedicated staff at Hunter-V-Tec and said they should share in Rebecca’s success.
“HVTC is successful in producing top quality apprentices and trainees because we recruit the right people, place them with quality host employers and give them ongoing mentoring and support,” Mr Fuller said.
“This award is further proof that our Hunter-based company is one of Australia’s premier training companies,” he said.
Ms Connell took her place in the National Awards after winning the NSW Award on September 2. She was one of only 21 high achieving group training apprentices and trainees from across Australia selected to attend the week-long GTA Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders program in Canberra in August.
Another HVTC charge was also a finalist at the National Awards. Alexander Hackett from the NSW Northern Rivers town of Clunes was in the running for School Based Apprentice of the Year. The 18 year old is
completing a school based plumbing apprenticeship through HVTC division, Northern Rivers Group Training.
HVTC is Australia’s largest and oldest Group Training Organisation. In its 30 years of operation it has trained more than 18,000 apprentices and trainees. It currently employs more than 1200 apprentices and trainees and boasts apprenticeship completion rates of 85%, well above the industry average of 50%.
