20 year old Rebecca Connell from Rathmines was named Trainee of the Year. Ms Connell is completing her traineeship through Hunter-V-Tec, HVTC’s Registered Training Organisation, and works for host employer Eraring Energy. HVTC CEO Robert Fuller congratulated Rebecca on her outstanding achievement as she will now go on to represent NSW in the upcoming national awards.
Centennial Coal, nominated by HVTC, took out the Large Host Employer of the Year award. Of its 60 apprentices and trainees, Centennial Coal currently hosts 17 HVTC apprentices in Northern NSW where they spend the school terms in their first 12 months at Hunter-V-Tec’s Skills Centre undertaking accelerated learning programs in theory and practical exercises. They work at Centennial in the holidays.
Alexander Hackett from Clunes was named School Based Apprentice of the Year. The 18 year old is completing a school based plumbing apprenticeship through Northern Rivers Group Training (NRGT), a division of HVTC, while studying at Trinity Catholic College. He works for host employer, Ballina plumbing firm, Sydney and Richardson.
HVTC CEO Robert Fuller was at the awards to support eight of the company’s apprentices and trainees who were all finalists. He congratulated Rebecca, Alexander and Centennial Coal on their awards and the other finalists for winning their regional category awards.
“HVTC is successful in producing top quality apprentices and trainees because we recruit the right people, place them with quality host employers and give them ongoing mentoring and support,” Mr Fuller said.
“Our high quality apprentices and trainees mean that host employers have productive, job ready people to help their business and the region’s economy to grow,” he said.
