The Shire Group Training is celebrating after having Brent Trotter from Scully & Associates receive the Leading Trainee award in the Southern Sydney - Department of Education and Training awards in July.
Brent Trotter began a General Construction Certificate II traineeship in February 2007 through The Shire Group Training.

Brent’s host employer Scully & Associates immediately recognized Brent’s potential. After only 3 months in the company, Brent was appointed to the role of Materials Controller. In this role, Brent is required to deal with many people at varying levels, both internal and external to the company. As such, Brent has developed excellent communication skills, which has enabled him to succeed within the company.

Scully & Associates were keen to develop Brent’s skills and as such paid for Brent to undergo a CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) course through TAFE, this was external to his traineeship. Brent is now heavily involved in all aspects of product design for Scully & Associates.

Brent has performed at an extremely high standard in all aspects of his job. His commitment to his traineeship has been outstanding, with no recorded absences during the twelve month term of his traineeship. Brent has demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn all aspects of the business. This was further recognised when in February 2008. Brent completed his General Construction traineeship and was immediately signed into Business (Front line management) Certificate III. Scully & Associates have identified that Brent will be a valuable member of staff and management for many years and will make a valuable contribution towards the growth of the company.

In March 2008, Brent was the recipient of The Shire Group Training ‘Trainee of the Year’ award (General Construction category). He was one of 5 finalists from the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Tablelands regions.

In April 2008, Brent was invited by Sutherland Business Education Network to take part in a Youth Forum at Gymea TAFE. The discussion forum was to promote apprenticeships and traineeships to local High School students. Brent answered questions from the students and spoke about his own experiences and achievements. This was very well received by the students attending and prompted much discussion and interest.
