The Shire Group Training is celebrating after having Captive Animals trainee, Lauren Oates from Symbio Wildlife Gardens receive the Animal Studies Category Award at the Illawarra Region -Department of Education and Training awards in July.

Lauren Oates began an Animal Studies Certificate II traineeship in February 2007 through The Shire Group Training.

Lauren’s host employer Symbio Wildlife Gardens quickly identified Lauren’s potential. From the first day Lauren joined the Symbio team her passion was never questioned, her desire to succeed was a quality that was clearly demonstrated. She is an employee that can be trusted implicitly to undertake any task to a standard greater than many others more mature and experienced. Her keen organisational skills have contributed to the efficient operation of the zoo and shop/kiosk.

Lauren is a young lady with a passion, a belief and a desire to succeed. Within the 12 month traineeship, she had become a valuable member of the team at Symbio Wildlife Gardens. Lauren plays a vital role in the day to day operations of the zoo. She can be very proud of her outstanding development and can look forward to playing an important role within the future of her chosen industry.

She is a polite, pleasant, confident and bright person who takes on responsibility beyond her years – and delivers every time without disappointment. Her customer service and communication skills are evident when Lauren is conducting her daily presentations to the public on the various animals within the zoo.

In March 2008 Lauren was the recipient of The Shire Group Training ‘Trainee of the Year’ award (Animal Studies category). She was one of the finalists from The Shire, Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Tablelands regions.

Due to her outstanding performance Symbio Wildlife Gardens have now included Lauren in more ‘hands on’ activities with the animals and Lauren has embraced the opportunity to undertake a Certificate III in Captive Animals, which she commenced with The Shire Group Training in February 2008.
