Danielle Harris was presented with her 50th Trainee Certificate at the official launch of The Shire Group Training by the Hon. Milton Morris, Chairman, Hunter Valley Training Company on Wednesday 9 July at the SSHED, Loftus.

This week 18 year old trainee Danielle Harris is celebrating being 50 – the 50th trainee placed by local company The Shire Group Training that is.

The Shire Group Training set up in the Sutherland Shire last year to connect apprentices and trainees with host employers.

With Danielle’s placement as a hospitality trainee with the Chambers Café and Restaurant in Sutherland, 50 young people have now been placed into local traineeships and apprenticeships.

“We have been bowled over by the support and interest from local businesses,” explained Janet Knight, Manager, The Shire Group Training.

“The reason employers come to us is because we take away much of the paperwork, hassle and time needed to manage a trainee. We handle everything from recruiting, short-listing, work safety, contracts, payroll, superannuation, workers compensation and much more.

“We spend a great deal of time finding the right trainee or apprentice for the employer and help make the traineeship experience rewarding and successful for both parties. We’re achieving a trainee completion rate of 97% which is well above the national average of just 50%,” added Janet.

Becoming a trainee has been a rewarding experience for Danielle. “I am really happy to have found a role where I can learn about hospitality, and feel I have made great progress so far” she said. “It’s my pleasure to help people experience dining out and I look forward to achieving more”.

The company’s first placement was Trent Lay, an Aquaculture trainee with Drakes oyster hatchery in Woolooware Bay. Since then trainees and apprentices have been placed at Symbio Wildlife Gardens, ANSTO, Sutherland Shire Council, Scully and Associates and many more local businesses.

The Shire Group Training is based at the SSHED business accelerator at Sutherland. It is a not-for-profit organisation and part of the Hunter Valley Training Company which was established in 1981 and now the largest employer of apprentices and trainees in NSW.
