NBN news presenter and journalist Melinda Smith has joined Hunter Valley Training Company to help develop its corporate communications strategy.

In his announcement, the Chairman of HVTC, Mr Milton Morris, said it was a coup to have someone with the experience and expertise of Ms Smith to contribute to the plans and implementation of the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations in June 2011 and beyond.

Ms Smith joined NBN as a cadet reporter 25 years ago and will continue her news presenting role from time to time.

She stepped back from her NBN Corporate Projects Manger and full-time on-air roles this year to study for a Master of Business Administration at the University of Newcastle, then took up the opportunity to join HVTC in March.

“Ms Smith is well-recognised and a credible face throughout the Hunter and the State’s north, where many of HVTC’s regional offices are located,” Mr Morris said.

“We are delighted to have someone of her calibre, and this augurs well for the 30th anniversary celebrations and for the company’s key role of training people with the skills they need for rewarding careers and for the nation’s sound economic strength.”

Ms Smith said she was looking forward to the opportunity to work with HVTC.

“The upcoming 30th milestone is an important chapter in the company's history and an exciting time to be involved with the careers of HVTC's apprentices and trainees,” she said.
