The Illawarra and surrounding regions is serviced by Illawarra Group Training and Shoalhaven Group Training. Illawarra Group Training is based in Unanderra and services Wollongong and surrounding suburbs, Shoalhaven Group Training services the area from Nowra, south to Bateman’s Bay.
Illawarra Group Training
Illawarra Group Training (IGT) has been a market leader in its region since 1985 and is the major employer of apprentices in the Illawarra, with almost 400 employees hosted by more than 100 companies. The employment covers a range of industries and is particularly strong in the Engineering and Electrical trades. Leading the way is Blue Scope Steel, which has made a strong commitment to the youth of the region with large intakes of apprentices, and a commitment to their continuity of employment.

Shoalhaven Group Training
Also located near the Illawarra Region is Shoalhaven Group Training. The activities of Shoalhaven Group Training (SGT) are centered on the NSW South Coast town of Nowra. Operating since 1998, SGT prides itself on providing ongoing support to both the apprentice and Host, to ensure that the term of the apprenticeship is successfully completed and the apprentices make a substantial contribution to their Host’s business. Additional services provided include administration of payroll and all aspects of the apprenticeship, including RTO/TAFE. Shoalhaven also ensures that the Host provides a safer workplace for employees, a free OH&S audit is provided.
