Milton Morris portrait

The Hon. Milton Morris AO

Patron

Mr Morris started his career as an industrial officer with Stewarts and Lloyds in Newcastle, a position he held for 16 years. He became the Liberal Member for Maitland in 1956 and represented the constituency for 25 years. He served as a Minister in three portfolios from 1965 to 1976, and holds the NSW record as the longest serving Minister for Transport.

He was Chairman of HVTC from 1981 to 2011 and remained a Board Director until 2015 when he resigned from executive duties and was appointed HVTC Patron.

Robert Cameron AO

Chairman

Bob Cameron was appointed as Chairman of HVTC in 2012 following in the footsteps of Founding Chairman, The Hon Milton Morris AO.

Bob Cameron had a long career as a senior manager in the coal industry and became the Founder of Centennial Coal Company Limited and its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer until stepping down in June 2011. Bob continues as a non-executive Chairman of Centennial.

Richard Owens AM

Deputy Chairman

Richard Owens joined the HVTC Board in May 2011 and is chairman of his family’s diversified retail, real estate and investment company in Sydney.

After selling his company in 1988, he became Executive in Residence in the Faculty of Family Business, International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland until 1991. Mr Owens regularly visits universities as a guest lecturer to teach the principles of family business.

Kay Sharp AM

Director

Mrs Sharp started her career as a stenographer with the Maitland City Council before running her own secretarial bureau and accepting a position as Mr Morris’s electoral secretary. She retired from the political arena in February 1981 and joined HVTC in June of that year as CEO.

Mrs Sharp took up a position on the HVTC Board of Directors in 2002. 
Robert Puffett portrait

Robert (Bob) Puffett AM

Director

Starting his working life as an apprentice plumber, Mr Puffett worked his trade until he joined TAFE as a technical teacher. He progressed to Head of School then College Principal. He went on to become Director of Industrial Relations and Director of the Sydney Institute. Prior to retirement he was Assistant Director General for TAFE NSW.

Mr Puffett joined the HVTC Board of Directors in February 2011.
Peter McPherson portrait

Peter McPherson

Director

An electrician by trade, with 17 years’ experience contracting in the steel industry, coal mines, power stations and on construction sites, Mr McPherson has spent 13 years as an organiser with the Electrical Trades Union. In 2003 he became an Industrial Officer for Unions NSW and Assistant Secretary of Newcastle Trades Hall Council.

On joining the HVTC Board in October 2003 he said he looked forward to encouraging industry to engage more apprentices.
Phil Cox portrait

Phil Cox

Director

Phil Cox commenced his career in the shipping and transport industry before working for the NSW Government, in various senior management roles, over a period of almost 20 years. In 1991 he joined TAFE NSW where he held Senior Executive positions until 2015.

Mr Cox joined the HVTC Board in 2015 and is active in the VET sector as a consultant and strategic advisor working with various industry and training organisations.  
Sue Murray portrait

Sue Murray

Director

Sue Murray has over 30 years’ experience in finance and commercial leadership across various industries including agriculture, not-for-profit and, most recently, defence and aerospace. She is currently a senior manager at the global defence company BAE Systems Australia.

Mrs Murray joined the HVTC Board in 2018 and is passionate about career development for the next generation.
Patrick Gallagher portrait

Patrick Gallagher CSC

Director

Patrick Gallagher joined the HVTC Board of Directors in June 2018.

Currently Head of Risk at Sydney Water, Mr Gallagher was formerly in the Australian Army and has held several general management and subject matter expert roles in business, corporate strategy and enterprise risk management in the public and private sectors, both in Australia and overseas.
